LANSING – At 11:59 p.m. Friday, the state departments of Community Health and Human Services officially merged, becoming the Department of Health and Human Services.

The creation of the state’s largest department — with 14,010 employees — came and went without significant challenge, fanfare or commemoration, although the new department is expected to quietly mark the merger at some point next week.
